Lucas Espindola

Originally from Brazil and living in Finland for more than 10 years, I have a background in competitive sports such as basketball, handball, and swimming, which has given me a practical understanding of active lifestyles. I have always been searching for ways to progress in both sports and fitness altogether. The outcome was a career as a Personal Trainer and a CrossFit coach, aiming to help people understand exercise, and through that knowledge, achieve their very best.

I started CrossFit on a whim in May of 2015, when age and a sedentary lifestyle began to catch up with me and I could no longer deal with the aches and pains my own neglect was creating. I was the last person you'd expect to see in a CrossFit class, as the sport had no appeal to me; however, after the first lesson in my On Ramp course, I knew that this was not just something I would enjoy, but something my body clearly needed. Trying this new thing made a huge difference in my quality of life.

I took the leap to coaching in August 2017, in the hopes that I could inspire others to take care of their bodies and try new things. I know firsthand how long and hard the road to fitness can be for beginners, so you can count on me to understand your struggles and celebrate your victories.

Other than CrossFit, I have a history in Ashtanga yoga and I love snowboarding and wall climbing. In 2017, I completed the Tough Viking obstacle course in Helsinki.

"An open mind and a positive attitude makes all the difference."

I graduated in 2011 as sports advisor and ever since I have been working as a personal trainer. Exercise and sports have always been close to my heart, and already in elementary school I had a dream of finding a job in that field. Exercise has had a significant impact on my overall well-being, and that is what I want to pass on to my athletes.

My previous background was in competitive swimming and floorball. I was first introduced to CrossFit training in 2012 and I fell completely in love with the sport. CrossFit is fascinating in its versatility and its goal to optimally manage all physical aspects.

"I believe in the CrossFit ideology, so I can recommend it to anyone regardless of age and fitness level."

I began CrossFit training in 2007. After having two wonderful kids back in 2011 and 2013, my regime has decreased but not ceased.

I'm experienced enough to know that there can be many different challenges that you might need to work with, or around, to be able to train. Not everyone is cut from the same cloth and that's perfectly acceptable. No need to worry about what you can't do - let's focus on what you can!

Amongst my training background, I have experience in different fighting sports and martial arts. Since I was 14, I've done TKD, Kickboxing, MMA, Wushu, and BJJ, which I've also taught over the years.

I'm quite a precise person and doing things right inspires me. That's really important in CrossFit and that's one of the reasons it really hit me back when I started. It doesn't matter how much you lift but rather if what you do makes you healthy and better (in that order, mind you).

“There are only two ways to influence human behavior: you can manipulate it or you can inspire it.”

I have been coaching for about 7.5 years now. I've coached functional training for 2.5 years, in which I have an educational background. For the last 5 years I have been a CrossFit coach.

Sports and exercising are a big part of me and I do it with all my heart. In fact, I have played basketball and competed for about 10 years; then the CrossFit spark struck me and I fell in love immediately. I have also participated in a few CrossFit competitions.

I’m also a Personal Trainer, I prescribe nutrition programs, and I coach CrossFit classes for pregnant women and new mothers. In addition of all this, I’m a paramedic by profession.

I like to make athletes work hard and smart. As a coach I am supportive, energetic, talkative, and never stop smiling, but don’t mistake my smile, I can also be very strict if necessary.
